All you need to know about home insurance

You must have a home insurance covering your room for the duration of the lease.

What kind of insurance do you need ?

You must take out comprehensive household insurance to cover at least the rental risks of fire, explosion and water damage. You are free to select the insurer of your choice to insure against these risks. You can also choose additional guarantees to cover damage to neighbors and third parties, as well as damage to your property.

What to do with the insurance certificate ?

You must provide us with your insurance certificate as soon as you arrive in residence. If you have not taken out insurance before your arrival and you do not provide us with an insurance certificate the day of your arrival, you must send it to us as soon as possible. If you do not insure your accommodation, we may terminate your lease in accordance with the law.

What about flatsharing ?

The entire apartment must be covered by insurance. It can be subscribed by a single roommate, in which case the name of all roommates must be included in the contract. It is also possible for everyone to subscribe individually to an insurance contract. By choosing this option, each contract must cover the entire surface of the apartment. It is wise that all roommates subscribe with the same insurer to facilitate the process in case of disaster.

What to do in case of disaster ?

Any disaster must be declared to the insurance within 5 working days. If you have been robbed and are covered against theft, the time is reduced to 2 working days and you must file a complaint at a police station.

If your liability is incurred as a result of the incident, you must send to your insurer all the documents you receive in the event of your liability.
